A fantastic example of the Bunsei Isshu Kin, with only 4 finer graded by PCGS. An unusually strong strike and superb color and luster make this one of the most attractive ones we have come across. Please note that mark on the obverse is a planchet flaw, not a scratch.
A scarce type, the Bunsei Isshu Kin is notable as being both the only square-shaped coin and the lowest purity gold coin of the Edo period. Since they were only about 13% gold, they very quickly lost their golden tone and luster, making examples difficult to find with good eye appeal.
