This is a beautiful example of a Tenpo (Tempo) Era gold Koban. These large, distinctively shaped gold coins are the epitome of Japanese Edo period currency. A perfect opportunity to add something unique to your collection!
Included with this Koban is a certificate of authentication from the Japan Numismatic Dealers Association (JNDA). JNDA authenticates but does not grade or encapsulate coins. The certificate comes in the original faux-leather folio.
Note that the fine hairlines on this (and all standard Kobans) are a result of the minting process. One of the final stages of the minting process was to polish them with river water, which allowed fine sand to create these hairlines. PCGS and other graders do not consider these cleaning or scratches. The "scratch" designation on this example is because PCGS determined that one or more of the hairlines is deep and/or long enough to be considered post-mint.
