Graded MS64 by PCGS, this 1903 (Meiji 36) Yen displays attractive, original toning. The obverse exhibits a beautiful array of iridescent colors, with hues of cobalt blue, fiery russet, and pale gold distributed across the surface. The reverse also displays attractive toning, with the colors subtly present in the fields, around the central characters, and the denticles. The coin exhibits a sharp strike, with the dragon on the obverse and the wreath and chrysanthemum crest on the reverse showing well-defined details. The underlying luster is strong and still quite evident, particularly in the fields. This piece has minimal contact marks commensurate with its grade.
